The Mercedes eSprinter was considered one of the first truly compelling large electric panel vans to go on sale, and helped start electrify some of the UK’s largest commercial fleets including Amazon and Royal Mail.

Mercedes currently has medium and large electric commercial vehicles available in the eVito and eSprinter panel vans, with the eCitan compact panel van following in early 2023. Range may not be class-leading in any segment, but they will still be more than sufficient for most businesses in the UK. Mercedes’ own research found that, after analysing 1.6 million customer journeys, 96% of all journeys were shorter than 62 miles.

The commercial vehicle sector is heating up fast and the blue oval of Ford wants in. It has recently released both the Ford e-Transit and e-Transit Connect to squarely take on the eSprinter and eVito. There are also the full range of small, medium and large electric vans available from Citroen, Ford, Maxus and Vauxhall, to name a few, so Mercedes doesn’t have time to rest.

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is the largest model in the manufacturer’s electric van range and is enjoyable to drive around town. It’s only available as an L2H2 model, but that still means more than three metres of loading length, two metres of height and a total load area of 11m3. Worth noting that its payload is limited to 731kg, so it’s great at carrying big things, just not heavy ones.
