BYD, which stands for Build Your Dreams, is the latest company to make the journey from China and disrupt the electric car market in the UK. Sure, the name might be a bit cheesy but the cars are no joke and you’ll start seeing more and more on the road as drivers get to grips with what the brand offers.

BYD is a massive Chinese manufacturing company and has been around since the 1990s, making everything from cars to buses, and solar panels to batteries. It’s now a truly global company with offices all over the world. Put that all together and you’ve got a company in a pretty great position to make an electric car that people want to buy or lease.

BYD has committed to being EV-only and this year entered into the UK market with its first model – the Atto 3. More on that in a minute. There’s plenty of other models in the pipeline (which focus on range, tech and affordability) so expect to see the BYD badge becoming a lot more popular on British roads.

As mentioned, the Atto 3 is the first BYD model to hit UK shores. It’s a family SUV that’s a rival to things like the Volkswagen ID.4. That’s being followed up by the BYD Dolphin – a small electric hatchback that will target the likes of the MG4, with a lower price, a generous amount of standard equipment and a range of up to 265 miles.
